The Self-E-Steam Series

I hope this post find you well and on your way to living a live of peace and joy. I have had so many things put on my heart in the last few weeks and they all seem to be coming alive literally at the same time. But then again I guess that God knows what I can handle and what I can not. I am learning to trust that more and more everyday.
So with the many writing projects and developments I have underway, I am working on a children’s series of developing self esteem. But as I began to write it I realized that many adults are battling this same issue right now as I type this blog. Most were not taught as children how to develop their own self esteem, and be proud of their accomplishments. How can we then expect those same adults to be able to teach and guide their children who may now battle with self esteem issues? We can’t.

Self esteem impressions take root at an early age. If that child is not encouraged or given the support needed to make them feel they are capable of making good sensible choices, then that barrier to promote a well balanced view of their accomplishments exists until they become adults as well. And most of us keep living that cycle of “what I did wrong” or “I am such a failure” for years after we have truly established ourselves as capable, responsible adults.
After some research and putting my own thoughts as parent into this, I wanted to give you a taste of a part of the self esteem series I am writing. It is called “SELF-E-STEAM: HOW TO BUILD YOUR SELF-E-STEAM ENGINE”. We all need to keep our engines moving and chugging and pushing forward whether it comes to personal, professional, or family desires. And self esteem is just that; and engine that keeps our minds and our focus positive enabling us to accomplish the goals and task we have set before us.
Self esteem is a positive trait. However, we must remember to not put ourselves first with haughty pride. Learn to believe in ourselves, through the study and understand of God’s word and use our self-e-steam engines to always help others first. Here is an excerpt from my upcoming series:

BUILD YOUR CHILD’S SELF-E-STEAM!

10 EFFECTIVE KEYS TO HELPONG CHILDREN BUILD THEIR SELF-E-STEAM ENGINE

1.Make sure your children know that the ideas and feelings they have are important. Take their input
seriously and discuss their ideas with them.

2. Give your children responsibility for their age level. Teach them to set reasonable goals to help them begin to see the value of achieving success when they reach them.

3. Reward your children for a job well done. Praise them without hesitation and recognize their contributions to the family responsibilities.

4. Show your children that you like yourself. Let them know you feel good about yourself but that we all make mistakes. Teach them how to learn from those mistakes.

5. Teach your children to have respect and acceptance for those who are different from them. Explain to them we all have special strengths and characteristics to contribute and compliment each other.

6. Teach your children how to manage their time. Explain the importance of spending their time wisely to encourage all around growth and development.

7. Spend time with your children participating in some of their favorite activities. Learn about what they like to do and what gives them joy. Give them support and share in that time with them.

8. Discuss problems openly without immediately finding fault or blame. Help them find a solution rather than complaining about the problem at hand.

9. Show your children how to budget their money. Clarify the meaning of a budget actually is and how to save their money for a “rainy day”. Do not let the value of money or “having money” be their ultimate desire.
10. Hug them and tell them you love them often. Show them it is okay to express affection for each other.
